This morning, porcinea posted a question asking what zie had planned to do today.  And asked what we were planning.

I have no idea what I was going to do today.

I sat around and knit for a little while, until the housemates went off to the college to study.

Then I sat around sort of doing some reading/editing, while sitting on the front step admiring the nice(!) weather.  I can't believe how warm and sunny it is (though we still have bunches of snow in the shaded woods).

Then, instead of doing more reading/editing, I went outside again and let the chickies and duckies out of their coop.  I've been not doing that because I don't want hawks and owls swooping down on them, but it's the middle of a sunny day, and I'm here to watch them.  They are *ecstatic*.

I read another page or so, over about a half an hour.  But I figured I'd be more productive outside.  So I picked up my nifty sharp square-bladed shovel, and went out and dug me (and the duckies) a duck pond.  There's lots of water making the meadow swampy here and there, so the pond worked out great.  The ducks liked it, although I have to say, they seem equally happy with various unmodified swampy bits in the meadow.

I've collected six eggs so far today (they've been down to between four and seven a day, lately).  One of the bantam roosters has started imitating the squawking a hen makes when she's laying, so I can no longer depend on sound to tell me when to go check.  I'm not too sure about those roosters; not only do they appear to be confused (or tricksters), but they sure are obnoxious in the "attack anything that moves" line.  The housemates keep threatening to make stew out of them.  And we all end up punting them whenever they attack our boots.

Pretty soon I'll have to round up the various fowl, with help from the residents.  Said residents have returned in time to wash dishes, make a triple batch of guac, and grill bunches of stuff for a load more college kids who're to show up any minute.

I'm sure there are important things I should be doing.  Maybe I'll read another page or three, and go take a nap before the hordes arrive.

This blissful relaxed Saturday will come back to bite me on Monday, I'm sure.  Nothing like the last three weeks of the semester to point out to me how much I've dumped on my plate.  ("La la la... I can't heeeaaar you.")

You are perhaps the only person I know who might randomly think, "I feel like being productive; I suppose I should go dig a duck pond," and actually do it, but it makes you quite a bit of fun to know, that's for sure.

Heh. Thanks.
(and per the icon, Batman was my childhood hero.)

I have not dug another duck pond today. I might work on something like that next weekend, but it's time to get back to reality and those 50++ pages I'm supposed to read.

I'm fun because I dig duck ponds?

Tune in next week. Maybe we'll plan the tower for the Northwest corner of the house. For watching incoming lightning storms, of course.
