Power outage
For any of my student friends who are wondering why their email and/or nook won't work, the power is out here, and has been out since about 9:30 last night.  I called the power company, who said that "some outlying areas" may continue to be without power into the afternoon.  They're not all that good about predicting when they'll get things fixed, though, so take that as a very, very general time frame.  And then after the power comes back up, someone in IT needs to reset things, I think, for the server to work.  I don't know if Ellen is in town, but if she is, she'll probably give the power company a hefty thwap.  She was really, really annoyed last year when we had no power for 50 hours (during Spring Break, I think - I know there weren't any students here).

I'm having a fine time with it, though.  Would be nice to take a shower, of course, and I don't know where my 5-gallon emergency water jug is, but there's plenty of snow to melt, and if I feel like making the trek down the hill, there's a surface well I can draw from.  Can't do any vacuuming or do the laundry - such a pity. It's warm enough out so that the water for the chickens and ducks won't freeze.  Inside, the wood stove is warming up, and my tea is hot, so all is well.

I was wondering. . .I still use webmail for my Marlboro email. . .
Ugh. I SOOO don't miss those power outages.

Power came back up around 10:30, I think. It might have gone out again for a while, because we had a power line down on Moss Hollow, arcing. After they shut the juice off, Andy collected a piece of glass for me, created by electricity flowing through the sand. My MC email is working, now.

How are the roads handling the thaw? We've got some really rather unpleasant ice around here...

Some roads were apparently really bad - Butterfield, I heard. My road was fine, if a little bit slimy. Now we've got an ice storm, but I was just out and the paved roads are clear now - they were probably icy earlier in the day.
