To my northern friends
Another Ice Storm bit of trivia:  Mom was delighted the other day to see one of the many line crews drive by with a Canadian flag waving out the window.  We got crews from all over the place (Ohio, North Carolina, Canada, Maryland...).  We're back up, now, so either they've headed home, or over to NH for more work.

Thanks, everyone!

There was a piece on CBC Radio One last week about the crews in from Ontario and Quebec. Glad to hear that you're back up in time for the next onslot.

Wish me luck, I'm travelling tomorrow in the thick of it. :P
The main problem is going to be getting from Toronto to Buffalo (I moved my bus reservation back to allow lots of extra time) and then getting out of Buffalo. If I'm more than an hour late, I miss my connection in Baltimore.

Today's lesson is....
Have a laptop with wifi and a decent battery. It helps you find available hotels _much_ faster.

So far, I've been cancelled twice. I'm glad I brought lots of study material.

The Buffalo airport Holiday Inn? V. nice, but expensive for my budget. Very gracious, treat stranded passengers well, and can, in a pinch, do a discount. One night. Tonight, I'm staying at the Williamsville La Quinta. I would recommend it for three steps above bare bones accommodation. it's clean, modern, has free internet access (just don't download movies, 'kay?) their staff is thoughtful and helpful, there is a park n'fly service to the airport, as well as plain ol' shuttle. Very helpful and understanding. I have to check weather, Southwest's and the airport's site; hopefully, I'll get out of here tomorrow.

If I run a third night, then I'm behind the 8-ball in that a greyhound ticket back via Toronto would have cost about as much as the hotels are running. Oh well. Learning curve.

If I was driving, I'd have headed home or back to a friend's place in St. Catherine's. But I'm not.
